Frequently Asked Questions

What does “Lamacoid” mean?

“Lamacoid” (also spelled “Lamicoid”) started as a trade name for rigid phenolic engraving sheet. In industry, it’s become a generic term for layered engraving laminate used for legend plates and tags. Modern versions are typically acrylic-based, made for clean laser engraving and high contrast. There are some phenolic still available when needed.

Are laminate legend plates durable enough for industrial use?

Yes two color laminate plates are non-conductive, color stable, and abrasion resistant. They’re widely used on control panels and OEM equipment for long-term identification.

Do laminate plates hold up outdoors?

They’re suitable for many outdoor applications. For severe exposure (salt spray, heavy abrasion), contact us, anodized aluminum options are coming soon for the harshest environments.

Can I get 3M adhesive backing?

Yes. Most plates can ship with industrial 3M peel and stick adhesive for quick installation. Holes are also available for rivets, screws, chains, or zip-ties.

Do you offer stainless steel?

We focus on two-color laminate at this time. Anodized aluminum plates are in development and will be available soon.
